What does it mean to be a Christian? Is it just joining some church or a club called religion? Can a person really know God personally or is Christianity just another religion looking for answers?
Knowing Jesus Christ is a relationship not a religion as some might think. Anyone can debate the question, “is God for real” but sadly so many ignore the fact that Jesus Christ longs to reveal Himself in a very personal way if only we would allow Him too. The difference of Christianity than all of the other religions is the Holy Spirit which reveals God’s presence and power. Knowing the presence of Jesus Christ is not just emotions as the world sees it. The presence of the Lord changes lives forever; there are countless of testimonies of the life changing power of God. So calling Christianity a religion is not a correct term; Christianity is a relationship not a religion. Those who assume that believers in Christ have just another religion are missing the point in being a Christian; it is to know Jesus Christ personally. I don’t just know about God; I know Him personally. Religious people are easy to spot, they become professional debaters instead of God lovers; they become critical instead of compassionate. They are full of knowledge but dead spiritually.
Being a Christian who loves Jesus is one who has experienced His presence and power; it is total surrender. It only took
one experience to change Saul the murderer to Paul a mighty man of God. When you truly hunger to know Jesus Christ more personally you will seek Him with the whole heart. That is what separates religion from being a Christian; you can have all the knowledge of your religion but that will never change you from the inside out. Only knowing Jesus Christ personally can change the way a person is from the inside out. When trouble hits your life and you find yourself in despair; what will religion do for you? Only a real experience of God’s love can get you through the hard times. Look at the days we are living in; great darkness all around, what can religion do for anyone? Without the knowing that Jesus Christ is there for you no-matter what; life can become very fearful. So many are asking, “where is God in all this darkness and uncertainty” if they only understood that Jesus is standing with arms wide open and saying, “come”.
Only when a person forgets about religion and all the traditions of men and gets serious about knowing God can that person find what they have been longing for all of their life. Christianity is not about what denomination you belong to or what title you have in the church it is about knowing God personally. Weather you are Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran or Catholic we are all God’s children. Being religious is nothing but dead works of men but when a person experiences a true love that only Jesus Christ can bring; that person’s life will be changed for ever more.
